VIDCON 2015

There were two words long kept apart and feared because of the sheer power they possessed. Through the Dark Ages (2005-2009) there would be whispers…but that’s all they were. Then, in 2010 something changed…the forbidden words were spoken and they were spoken loudly…and as it turns out they were more than just words…they were a rallying cry! I think we all know of what I speak…VID CON!

NEVERLANDIANS, it was an absolute pleasure and honor hanging out with you all at VidCon this year. I have said it before and I shall say it again, everything we do is because of you. Our show would be meaningless without you behind us. For those of you who couldn’t make it don’t worry…it was just like the most awesome super best time ever as we had all your favorite foods and your favorite band was there and they were totally taking request and everyone left with a roll of hundreds wrapped in a roll of fifties…in other words…you didn’t miss much. SERIOUSLY though, for those who couldn’t make it you were missed and we hope to start attending more and more cons.

We call people that enjoy our show FANS, but what is a fan? What does a fan do? Breaking it down a fan is a person that believes in you, supports your work, and enjoys spending time with you…I think Fan is the wrong F word…Friend sounds more accurate to me. So as cheesy and Golden Girls esq as it may sound, thank you for being our Friends.

Neverland Welcomes Gay Character Smee

We are proud to announce that the character of Smee in season two of The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy will be gay.  While this absolutely won’t define him as a character, it is important for us to touch on various aspects of life and growing up in our show.

There is a really great article at LGBTeen.com that has interviews with Kyle, Shawn and Jenni.  Here’s some copy-and-paste…. but you should really read the whole thing if you’re interested!

“Growing up is different for everybody,” said Kyle Walters, co-creator and star of the show. “We’re trying to touch as many versions of that, creating various characters so that hopefully everyone can relate an aspect of the show to their own journey.”

“Each character in our show represents a unique path and/or struggle with growing up. Smee will be no different!” said Walters. “He will be dealing with finding himself in the world as a gay man while also being an assistant to a big-time businessman, Hook.”

However, according to the show’s co-creator and writer Shawn deLoache, Smee’s sexuality won’t be the character’s main plot point. “Smee will be a strong, intelligent, layered character who just happens to be gay,” said deLoache. “Basically, we studied who Smee was in the books, who he really was at his heart … and dropped it into our world to see who he would become.”

Strawburry17 cast as Billie Jukes in The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy

We are totally stoked to announce that Youtube star Meghan Camarena (Strawburry17, The Amazing Race) is coming to Season Two of The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy!  

As Karla mentions in her blog post about the news (check it out here) “Meghan will be playing a character named, Billie Jukes, which is based off the pirate Bill Jukes. Obviously, the role has been switched from an original male character to a female to fit Meghan’s girly, cute personality. Billie, will be Wendy Darling’s dear friend and coworker at Hook’s company.”

Jim Beaver cast as Mr. Darling in The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy

We are beyond excited to announce that Jim Beaver (Supernatural, Deadwood, & Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Crimson Peak) will be joining the cast of The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy for season two. He will be playing the iconic patron of the Darling clan, Georg Darling.

The announcement got featured in The Daily Dot and Video Ink!

“For those of us who never grew up, Peter Pan still resonates,” Beaver told the Daily Dot. “That’s why I wanted to be a part of The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy. My other reason for joining the Peter and Wendy company is that my pixie pal Paula Rhodes is a driving force behind it. And I’ll do anything a pixie asks me to!”
